Design Types
Room Design supports three distinct design types, each optimized for different use cases and delivery methods. Understanding these types helps you choose the right approach for your project.
Overview
| Design Type | Primary Use | Interaction | Delivery Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| App | Interactive 3D designs | Full navigation & editing | Desktop application |
| Streaming | Real-time presentations | Remote viewing | Cloud streaming |
| Floorplan | 2D layout planning | Top-down view | 2D interface |
App Design Type
Description
Interactive 3D room designs that run directly within the RDesign desktop application. This is the most feature-rich design type, offering complete control over all aspects of the room.
Key Features
- Full 3D Navigation: Free camera movement and multiple viewing angles
- Real-time Editing: Immediate feedback when placing or modifying items
- Advanced Rendering: Path tracing and high-quality visualization
- Local Processing: Utilizes your local GPU for optimal performance
- Offline Capable: Work without internet connection once assets are downloaded
Best Use Cases
- Detailed interior design projects
- Client presentations requiring interaction
- Iterative design workflows
- High-quality rendering needs
App-type designs provide the most flexibility and are ideal for professional designers who need complete control over every aspect of their rooms.
Technical Requirements
- RDesign desktop application installed
- Compatible GPU (see System Requirements)
- Local storage for room files and assets
Streaming Design Type
Description
Real-time streaming room experiences that allow remote users to view high-quality 3D rooms without requiring the full RDesign application. The room is rendered on cloud servers and streamed to viewers.
Key Features
- Remote Access: View designs from any device with a browser
- No Installation Required: Clients don’t need the RDesign app
- Real-time Interaction: Navigate the room in real-time
- Cloud Rendering: High-quality graphics without local GPU requirements
- Multi-user Sessions: Multiple viewers can join streaming sessions
Best Use Cases
- Remote client presentations
- Sales demonstrations
- Stakeholder reviews
- Cross-platform accessibility needs
Streaming sessions require stable internet connection and may incur cloud computing costs depending on your plan.
Technical Requirements
- Active internet connection
- Compatible browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
- Streaming plan or credits
Streaming Workflow
- Prepare your App-type design
- Initiate a streaming session from the RDesign app
- Share the streaming link with viewers
- Control the presentation or allow viewer navigation
- End session when complete
Floorplan Design Type
Description
2D floorplan-based designs that focus on layout planning and spatial organization. This type prioritizes quick layout creation and is ideal for initial planning phases.
Key Features
- Top-down View: Bird’s-eye perspective of the room layout
- Quick Placement: Fast furniture and wall arrangement
- Dimension Tools: Built-in measurement and spacing tools
- Export Options: Generate 2D layout drawings
- Transition to 3D: Convert floorplans to full 3D designs
Best Use Cases
- Initial space planning
- Layout approval processes
- Quick client sketches
- Dimension verification
Floorplan designs can be upgraded to App-type designs, allowing you to start with quick 2D layouts and later add detailed 3D visualization.
Technical Requirements
- RDesign application (desktop or web)
- Basic system specifications
Floorplan to 3D Workflow
- Create 2D layout with walls and furniture
- Verify dimensions and spacing
- Convert to App-type design
- Add materials, lighting, and detailed 3D elements
- Finalize with rendering and visualization
Choosing the Right Design Type
Decision Guide
Choose App when:
- You need complete design control
- High-quality rendering is required
- Working offline or with large files
- Iterating on complex designs
Choose Streaming when:
- Presenting to remote clients
- Viewers don’t have RDesign installed
- Cross-platform access is needed
- Real-time collaboration is important
Choose Floorplan when:
- Starting a new project from scratch
- Focusing on spatial layout first
- Quick approval is needed
- 2D documentation is sufficient
Converting Between Types
Floorplan → App
Convert your 2D layout to a full 3D interactive design. This preserves all furniture placement and dimensions while adding 3D visualization capabilities.
App → Streaming
Any App-type design can be launched as a streaming session. The original App design remains unchanged, and streaming sessions are created on-demand.
Note: Streaming and App types cannot be directly converted to Floorplan. You would need to recreate the layout as a new Floorplan design.
